It’s been four months since I published the summertime edition of My Los Angeles Right Now. Dunsmoor, Stir Crazy, and Echigo are still in my rotation. But lately, an old-school Jewish deli, a brand-new banh mi shop, and a high-end Mexican restaurant (with flawless margaritas) are in the mix, too. For this fall update, I’m introducing ten additions, reinstituting one spot that dropped off, and cycling out eight places. I’m also making necessary revisions to recurring entries to highlight new draws.
As a refresher: My L.A. RN is a list of the restaurants I’m most excited about and/or frequenting the most regularly at the moment—and why. It won’t be skewed towards recent openings, although it might include a few. Every four months, some places will have dropped from my rotation, and therefore this list. That doesn’t mean they aren’t still great! It just means I haven’t been checking in as often and that I’ve been frequenting other spots (which will, in turn, be added to the list) instead. For example, while I do not doubt that Ruen Pair’s crispy egg salad still slaps, too much time has passed since I last visited, so they’re off for now.
This list is where I’ll point people who ask for my L.A. recs. Hopefully, it can serve as a guide for both Angelenos and visitors who want to know which restaurants are worth visiting for the first time and which restaurants are still worth returning to. According to me, that is. (A note of insufficiency: my taco game is weak right now. I’ve been craving Mexican food, though, and welcome recommendations. Email me!)
It’s organized from the most casual to the most fancy. If you visit any of these places and have a wonderful experience (or a bad one!), I’d love to hear from you.
