The results of The Angel’s very first survey are in, and they’ve been analyzed. Thank you to the ~150 readers who took the time to participate. I think we’ve gleaned some pretty interesting findings around what Angelenos want from restaurants right now. Before we get into a multitude of glorious graphs, I’d like to point out a few things that stood out to me.
L.A. gets a bad rap for caring more about vibes than food, and yet most of you still place a top value on good food. You’re hungry for original cooking more than anything else.
I was genuinely shocked at how high your standards for service are. Don’t get me wrong; I appreciate great hospitality as much as (if not more than) the next person, but on a scale of 1 to 5, I picked 4. Most of you picked 5!
Everyone loves Sam’s Place, RVR, and Dunsmoor. 😘🤌
Many of you are struggling to feel intrigued or thrilled by the new restaurant market. I get it.
Based on your responses regarding neighborhood restaurants, The Angel’s strongest local market is Los Feliz.
What everyone’s been saying is true: the majority of you are dining out less (too expensive!), and drinking less (because health is wealth), too.
Now, onto the meat. In addition to pie charts, bar graphs, donuts, and scatter plots, I’ve highlighted a handful of quotes (all anonymous) that I found particularly interesting. This took a ton of work, so I’m putting the paywall on from here on out. If you work in the industry and can’t afford a subscription right now, email me and I’ll grant you a free viewing.
