Plugs is The Angel’s recs column. Every week, you’ll get six picks—a restaurant, a bar, a shop, an ingredient, a person, and a treat—from someone in Los Angeles who knows what they’re talking about. (Plugs are for paid subscribers of The Angel only. However, if you’re in the restaurant industry and want a free subscription, hit me up. :))
#33 is Tommy Lucas, one of my favorite people in L.A. Tommy possesses many talents, including an innately hospitable nature and an expertise in the flower market. Most notably for The Angel readers: they are both a gifted movement teacher and a core teammember behind the much-anticipated L.A. Grocery & Cafe, which soft opens tomorrow and hard opens this coming week. Find them there, running point on HR; on Sundays, teaching hot yoga at the (stunning) Silver Springs studio in West Hollywood; and working the floor at Lolo a few nights a week. For peak Tommy, however, I highly recommend attending TRANSMISSION, their wildly fun community-inspired movement practice that fuses dance cardio with bodyweight strength and stretch. The next class is next Sunday evening, 6/9, and it’s Pride edition. Here are their L.A. plugs!

As a Taurus I am a creature of habit and, even moreso, comfort. When not on my daily morning parfait game (more on that with my ingredient), my go-to is this well-known hole-in-the-wall (literally). Doctoral theses could be written on the perfect breakfast burrito, but subjectivity is real and my favorite is the papas burrito with bacon and avocado. It’s too good a value for its quality and consistency. Not too eggy or oily, but filling and flavorful. Even better after a morning run down Los Feliz Blvd.
