Plugs — Rebekah Peppler
L.A. food and drink recs from a Paris-based author and travel writer + LINKS
Plugs is The Angel’s recs column. Every week, you’ll get six picks—a restaurant, a bar, a shop, an ingredient, a person, and a treat—from someone in Los Angeles who knows what they’re talking about. (Plugs are for paid subscribers of The Angel only. However, if you’re in the restaurant industry and want a free subscription, hit me up. :))
As of today, there’s a new addition to Plugs: links! At the bottom of Plugs, I’ll share a handful of stories from other writers that I enjoyed reading this past week.
#30 is , an American author, writer, and stylist living in Paris, France. She's currently on tour for her latest book, le SUD: Recipes from Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, which includes stops in her former home city of Los Angeles. Rebekah is also the author of À Table: Recipes for Cooking and Eating the French Way and Apéritif: Cocktail Hour the French Way. And as of recently, she’s now on Substack. Subscribe to for her monthly food-and-drink-focused city lists (think Paris, Marseille, and soon Mexico City). Here are her L.A. plugs!
Restaurant — Tsubaki
When I lived in L.A., I loved pulling up a solo seat at Tsubaki and placing myself in the magical world of Courtney Kaplan's sake program and Charles Namba's kitchen. I make it a point to go back every trip — if I can't get into the izakaya, find me at their equally dreamy sake bar next door, Ototo.
