Plugs is The Angel’s recs column. Every week, you’ll get six picks—a restaurant, a bar, a shop, an ingredient, a person, and a treat—from someone in Los Angeles who knows what they’re talking about. (Plugs are for paid subscribers of The Angel only. However, if you’re in the restaurant industry and want a free subscription, hit me up. :))
#32 is Lily Harris, a holistic nutrition practitioner and recipe developer. Grounded in the healing power of food, Lily’s work encompasses one-on-one sessions with clients, creating health-minded dishes, and sharing her knowledge. (You can find her recipes on Patreon.) I regularly find myself nodding my head while watching Lily’s stories on Instagram. She is incredibly perceptive and insightful about how diet, lifestyle, and emotions play into our overall wellbeing, which is something we all could benefit from. She also simply loves food and likes to have a good time. Here are her L.A. plugs!
Restaurant — Queen St.
As a celiac, my options for eating out are slimmer than most, but Queen St. has become a happy place for me because it's just a delicious restaurant that also happens to have very thoughtful and helpful people behind it. They are gentle with and considerate of my dietary needs. They make their own ponzu sauce with tamari so I can enjoy the wood-grilled tuna. When it's not busy, they've offered me the mussels without the typically included beer. I'm obsessed with the chopped chicory salad and the Carolina gold rice cooked with clam stock. I blush when they say, "Welcome back." I love oysters, but most of all I love the wine shelf that wraps around the ceiling. Queen St. only has one flaw in my eyes. It needs a liquor license so I can order a dirty martini. Beyond this, I'd like to give an honorable mention to Kismet Rotisserie for being very perfect as well.
