Plugs is The Angel’s recs column. Every week, you’ll get six picks—a restaurant, a bar, a shop, an ingredient, a person, and a treat—from someone in Los Angeles who knows what they’re talking about. (Plugs are for paid subscribers of The Angel only. However, if you’re in the restaurant industry and want a free subscription, hit me up. :))

#34 is David John Dick, an interior and furniture designer and the co-founder of the Silver Lake-based firm DISC Interiors. Alongside his partner Krista Schrock, he is the author of DISC Interiors: Portraits of Home. Prior to his design career, David worked in the restaurant industry for years, and continues to be obsessed with food, wine, and cider. I met him through his readership of The Angel, and swiftly learned that he has excellent taste. Here are his L.A. plugs.

Restaurant — Kinjiro

Kinjiro is a minimally designed izakaya in downtown L.A. The food is comforting and transporting yet precise and detailed; every dish we have tried over the years never fails to make a permanent impression. Fried free-range chicken tatsuta-age along with a freshly poured Suntory beer on draft is the ideal start to my Friday night. I love every dish on this menu: sashimi salad with blue crab, grilled chicken thigh with yuzu kosho, black sesame mousse… and the sakes they serve are divine. I could go on and on and on. It’s the perfect restaurant in every way.
