Plugs is The Angel’s recs column. Every week, you’ll get six picks—a restaurant, a bar, a shop, an ingredient, a person, and a treat—from someone in Los Angeles who knows what they’re talking about, plus a selection of Angel-curated links. (Plugs are for paid subscribers of The Angel only; upgrade your subscription to receive all six!)
To highlight the community that’s doing so much right now, I’m devoting an entire month of Plugs to restaurant industry players. Support restaurants! <3
#65 is Alex Parine, the GM at Dunsmoor, one of my favorite Los Angeles restaurants. Alex plays a key role in making Dunsmoor magic—from keeping the candles lit, maintaining the stellar vibe, manning the floor, and keeping guests happy. He does an excellent job. Before teaming up with Brian Dunsmoor, Alex worked as a manager at Pine & Crane and Joy, and before that, at Momofuku Noodle Bar and Atoboy in New York. All stellar restaurants; his experience speaks for itself. Here are his Plugs!

I've learned over the years to really savor my lunchtime, it's the time I get every day to relax, be in the moment, and enjoy something delicious before the chaos of my day starts. Lately, I've been hitting up Saffy's for their lunch menu and some coffee. It's just down the street from me, so I get to be a total California cliché and ride my longboard down and grab one of their killer lamb brisket pitas. It's got so much texture and flavor, very simple and delicious.
