How To Be Well in Los Angeles
My favorite smoothies, wholesome dishes, wellness practitioners, and fitness instructors
A wellness routine is paramount to a life well-lived in Los Angeles. I don’t make the rules, but I do abide by them. In my 3+ years as an Angeleno (do I get to call myself that yet? Probably not), I’ve amassed a pretty good roster of healthy restaurants and talented practitioners across town. And now, I’m sharing it with you.
The idea was to publish this in early January, after my 2025 predictions. Then the fires started, and all notions of new year wellness went out the door. Now that we are feeling slightly less fearful and hopefully less anxious but entirely still recovering as the city prepares to rebuild, I’m hoping this guide can serve as an encouragement to prioritize your well-being. It’s really important! Especially after the month we’ve had.
I initially planned to include hikes, but considering that L.A.’s most special trails are in Malibu, the Palisades, and Altadena, I’m holding off. It will likely be a while before visiting the wonderful Temescal Canyon or Mount Wilson is recommended. My #1 favorite hike, however, should be in the clear, as it’s well past the border of the Palisades Fires: here it is on AllTrails. It’s moderately challenging and breathtakingly beautiful. You’re rewarded with an almost 360-degree view of the Pacific Ocean at the peak.
SMOOTHIES
Here’s the thing with smoothies in Los Angeles: it’s hard to find a good one. All Erewhon smoothies are trash, particularly the way-too-sweet Hailey Bieber. The boring ones are watery and flavorless, and the complex ones are weird and gross. At one point, I was a fan of the Coconut Dream (with mods), but it’s rarely made correctly, resulting in a chalky, chunky texture from unblended coconut meat. Yuck.
I love smoothies, and I’ve tried many across town. I believe there are only three places that make truly great smoothies: Beverly Hills Juice, Honey Hi, and L.A. Grocery & Café. If you think I’m overlooking your favorite smoothie shop, please let me know in the comments. I am willing to be proven wrong and would love more options.
These are the five best smoothies in L.A., according to me:
