The much-hyped new Hollywood Burbank airport is finally open, and it’s not hyperbole to say the $1.3 billion, 355,000 square-foot project is the talk of the town. People have A Lot Of Feelings about replacing the dated-yet-beloved OG terminal, as evidenced by this passionate Reddit thread, and the sheer amount of responses I got from posting a picture of the futuristic neon orbs outside of the terminal when I flew from BUR last week. (Most common sentiment: “They ruined it!!”)
I’m no aviation expert, and I’m not here to comment on any of the FAA safety improvements the city may or may not have made to the east side’s favorite regional travel hub. But I am someone with strong feelings about airport food, and after enough people asked me about the concessions (including several queries specific to the presence of Guy Fieri), I knew I had some serious boots-on-the-ground reporting to do.
