50 First Plugs
The Plugs map of every place ever plugged is here! Plus, a recap of The Angel’s first 50 editions of Plugs
As I mentioned in The Angel’s anniversary newsletter, the most consistently fun part of putting this Substack together is curating Plugs. I love to tap tasteful people and give them a platform to shine a light on the places, people, and things they’ve loved in Los Angeles lately. As I tell participants, Plugs are meant to be an easy, revealing set of recommendations, not absolute all-time favorites, but a way to highlight what they’re enjoying and where they’re frequenting right now. The idea is that Plugs could be written several times a year.
To me, Plugs are a celebration of Los Angeles. They’re a way for readers to learn about new spots and, more importantly, to get to know cool Angelenos—chefs, writers, designers, artists, operators, florists, bakers, shopkeepers, somms, etc.—through where they like to eat and drink. Back when I worked at Resy (over five years ago now!), we had a slogan, which I always thought was kind of great: You are where you eat. From where they’re a regular to who they’re currently compelled by, Plugs are a window into the personalities of its participants, and I love that.
As of last week, The Angel has published 50 editions of Plugs. I wanted to take a moment to commemorate the milestone. Below, find a recap of all the glorious guests we’ve had on so far, in addition to the Plugs Map of every place ever plugged on The Angel.
Psst: Is there someone you’d love to see Plugs? I’m always open to nominations. Reply to this email or DM me.
